My Story

Dr Pankaj Singh was born in New Delhi (India) and did his basic education from various schools in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand (India). Throughout his education he has been a meritorious student with excellent track record. He was one of the toppers in both High School and Intermediate board examinations. After his intermediate, he scored one of the top ranks in AIPMT (All India Pre Medical Test) and completed his MBBS from country’s premier medical institute King Georges’ Medical University, Lucknow followed by his Post-gradualtion in General Surgery from SN Medical College, Agra. Soon after completing his post-graduation, he started his training in Neurosurgery in New Delhi in University College of Medical Sciences & GTB Hospital, Delhi as well as in RML Hospital, Delhi, where he worked until 2004. Later, in the same year he started his MRCS rotation in Oldchurch Hospital, Romford, UK and completed his MRCS by working in Oldchurch Hospital Romford, Brentwood Hospital Brentwood, King George Hospital, Ilford, UK. After finishing his MRCS Rotation, he joined the Department of Neurosurgery in Oldchurh Hospital (now Queens Hospital) in Romford itself and spent one year there as a SHO in Neurosurgery. 

In February 2007 he was appointed as a Clinical Research Fellow in the department of Neurosurgery, National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, UK and gained one year’s solid experience in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. He joined the department of Neurosurgery, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, UK as a Registrar Neurosurgery in January 2008 and worked there for 6 months. Dr Singh learned the basic Neurosurgical skills there. As a part of his Neurosurgical Training, Dr Singh was offered Leksell Gamma Knife & Neurosurgical Training Fellowship in January 2008 in Gamma Knife Centre, Karolinska Nobel Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He spent there 3 months and underwent advanced training in Gamma Knife. Following this, he spent 3 months in Dept. of Cerebrovascular Surgery, Nagoya University Hospital, Nagoya, Japan where he gained the advanced skills in Cerebrovascular Surgery including Aneurysm Clipping, AVM excision, etc.

 

By November 2008, Dr Singh returned back to his parent Institute in the UK and joined the Departments of Neurosurgery & Medical Physics, University of Sheffield, UK as a Research Fellow Neurosurgery and apart from his clinical commitments started working on AneurIST project. AneurIST was a European Union Funded Project that had received €18 Million funding rom them and was the flagship and a pioneer project in the field of 3D Modelling of diseases.  in March 2008 as a Neurovascular Clinical Research Fellow and, conducted the clinical impact evaluation of the different application suites developed by the project. Apart from publishing a number of high quality peer reviewed publications, Dr Singh has represented @neurIST in several national and international conferences. Due to his outstanding contribution in medical research Dr Singh has received many international awards including prestigious Young Neurosurgeon Award given jointly by American Association of Neurological Surgeon (AANS) and World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) in September 2009. In the same year, he also completed his MRCS from Royal College of Surgeons, University of Edinburgh, UK and became a member of Royal College of Surgeons. Dr Singh underwent a rigrous Neurosurgical Training in the UK and competed his MD in Neurosurgery from Royal Hallamshire Hospital, University of Sheffield, UK. After by that he spent further two and half years in Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast where he learned the advanced techniques in Neurosurgery.

 

In 2011, Dr Pankaj Singh visited Center for Image-Guided Neurosurgery, University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, Pittsburgh, USA to undertake a collaborative Neuro-Oncology Project and learn advanced technique in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. It was a joint research venture between Centre for Cancer Research & Cell Biology (CCCRB), Queens University Belfast and University of Pittsburgh & UPMC. The project was awarded a research grant of €10,000 by Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience that allowed him learn advanced technique in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.

 

He was awarded MD in Neurosurgery from University of Sheffield, UK in 2015. He also finished MBA from London Business School in and has successfully established four startups in the UK. One of his company MedStar Locums Ltd was listed in top fifty companies in the UK by NHS (National Health Services) crossing an annual turnover of over GBP £18 Million. Dr Pankaj Singh is very well recognized in the field of medical research and has conducted high-impact ground breaking research in the fields of Cerebral Aneurysms, Neuro-Oncology, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, Computer and Software,published more than 50 peer reviewed publications in high index journals, delivered more than 20 invited lectures in international conferences, and has conducted 8 international teaching courses. Dr Singh has also authored a book Cerebral Aneurysms: Deduction of Hemodynamic Factors using CFD (Scholars Press, European Union 2018). Dr Pankaj Singh is also a keen innovator and loves designing surgical instruments and medical equipment. He recently has received a patent on AutoJotter, an Automatic Hand-held Pen that writes automatically. He also has got number of other patents pending.

After gaining incredible international exposure in Neurosurgery as well as in Business, Dr Pankaj Singh joined NIMS University as a Director in 2016 and currently heading all University affairs including Admissions, Research, and Department of Neurosurgery Nims Suprspecialty Hospital, among others. He has won number of awards since he came to India including prestigious International Excellence Award. He is determined to steer NIMS University right to the top under his dynamic leadership.
